During construction of the Site C Clean Energy Project, a potentially acid generation (PAG) shale bedrock was encountered underlying the Site C dam that could lead to acid rock drainage and metal leaching. A consortium of contractors called Peace River Hydro Partners (PRHP) contracted Ensero Solutions to provide a mobile water treatment plant (WTP) to treat the PAG contact water during dam construction. Ensero offered PRHP a turn-key water treatment service, enabling them to focus on construction activities without worrying about water quality compliance. The mobile WTP was designed to treat water contaminated with heavy metals and TSS, and it continuously operated 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and met both discharge limits at the end of pipe and BC Water Quality Guidelines (BC WQG) for freshwater aquatic life at the end of an initial dilution zone. Utilizing a mobile plant saved the client capital costs associated with WTP construction.
